The U.S. Marine Corps has been testing out its F-35 variant, which can hover for vertical landings and perform short takeoffs. According to the Marine Corps Times, testing ran from May 18-19 aboard the USS Wasp, and included simulated dogfights.
This video shows off the F-35B’s vertical landing capability. When the aircraft comes into services, it will eventually replace older planes like the AV-8B harrier and the EA-6B Prowler.
While the F-35 program is mired in mired in controversy, few can deny how impressive this bird looks while floating above an amphibious assault ship.
