Maj. John Wilson flies the F-35 out of Luke Air Force Base in Arizona and was intervied by Christian Sundsdal of Krigeren.

When asked how the F-35 stacks up to other aircraft like the A-10, Wilson responds in the video that the A-10 Warthog will naturally be better at close air support (CAS) than the F-35.  The reason being that the Warthog was specifically designed for CAS.  In the same way, the F-22 was specifically designed for air-to-air combat.

But any other mission on the planet, the F-35 wins.

Wilson also makes the case that it is ultimately more economical to produce aircraft like the F-35 that can fulfill a variety of mission roles rather than designing and producing a variety of niche aircraft with specific mission capabilities.
