The Swiss Company Solar Impulse's  HB-SIA prototype hopes to impress the crowd at the upcoming Paris Air Show.  However, the aircraft's demonstration at the air show is dependent on the weather conditions.  The HB-SIA prototype is listed as a "special guest" and will be flying during the morning hours of the show.  The prototype is a  four engine carbon aircraft, with a wingspan of 211 ft.

           Two congressional lawmakers from Texas are lobbying to put more UAVs in the sky along the Texas-Mexico border, KRGV.com reports.  They feel the need for more surveillance in the region.  Currently there are 4 UAVs patrolling the southern border.  Three of the UAVs are based out of Arizona,  the bill includes the Army, National Guard and the Air National Guard to design

        There is beginning to be alot more buzz about biofuels in the aviation industry. In the past couple of weeks there have been many steps taken to get bio fuels approved.  This past week the U.S.

A few weeks ago the Air Force was successfully tested renewable jet fuel on several of their fighter plans, reports Domestic Fuel.com.  Another step was taking in the development of Biofuel commercial aviation, Just recently ASTM announced a provisional approval for a new specification for hydroprocessed renewable jet fuel.  This is a major step towards renewable jet fuel. 

           The upcoming Paris Air Show will display the latest and greatest aviation technology.  On display will be the new Boeing 747-8 wide body however, the experts expect the new Airbus 320 to steal the show.  The new aircraft is redesigned and has more fuel efficient engines.  Officials at Airbus expect commercial aircraft orders to exceed the record 255 contracts booked at the 2010 confab.

Recently the Pentagon has been increasing the use of unmanned aircraft in war zones which has caused a lack of manpower,reports the Dayton Daily News.  The military can only move so fast to train new UAV pilots.  Generally, there are only two men controlling a UAV, one to do the actual flying and the other to operate the sensors for intelligence and surveillance.  The Air Force is currently lookin

Hong Kong Airlines announced that they plan to order the Airbus A380 jets in the upcoming Paris Air Show next week.  The airline is looking to expand its international network by offering more flights, specifically the long haul routes.  For more on the Airbus A380 click here.

Lufthansa Technik Philippines is building a $30 million hanger in order to accommodate the larger aircrafts coming in to the airport.  This hanger will be able to hold and service the Airbus 380, the world biggest commercial jet.  There are only four sites that can currently service the Airbus 380, which has a wing span of 262 feet.

Due to the drifting ash cloud produced by the Puyehue volcano in Chile, Airline companies in Australia are canceling flights.  Airlines are deciding if it is safe enough to operate based on the cloud formations.  Particles from the volcano ash  are known to cause damage to aircraft engines.  Many airlines are looking at alternative routes and altitudes to avoid cancelations.
