AirAsia placed and order for 200 Airbus SAS A320neo planes which surpassed a record contract held by Indian carrier IndiGo. The deal came to total of $18 billion, IndiGo was not far off from holding the record, they ordered 180 A320 aircraft.
Bloomberg notes, "The Asian A320 deals helped Toulouse, France-based Airbus announce more than 16 times as many firm orders as Boeing Co. at the show and contributed to the A320neo becoming the fastest selling new airliner in history. Chicago-based Boeing Co. has yet to decide whether to upgrade its rival 737 aircraft or design a completely new jet. AirAsia is known as the region's biggest low-cost carrier, and now is know as Airbus's largest airline customer after this weeks show.
