Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) has signed an agreement with contract-maintenance provider Air Works that will allow the airport to offer third-party line maintenance services to airlines. The agreement means BIAL will become the first airport operator in India to offer line maintenance, according to the Deccan Herald. At present, line maintenance in India is performed solely by airlines themselves or by carriers with which they are affiliated and no other options are available.
Air Works' maintenance services are approved by the civil aviation authorities of India and the United Arab Emirates, as well as by European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA)-certified service provider. Line-maintenance services at Bangalore will be supported by Air Works' maintenance facility at Hosur, which is certified to offer aircraft-on-ground (AOG) maintenance services for Airbus A320-family, Boeing 737-family and ATR 42/ATR 72 commercial aircraft.
